To celebrate my birthday on Friday night, the ladies and I went to Spencer Makenzie’s for a fancy fish taco celebration. If you live in Ventura, you’re likely familiar with their award-winning food. If you’re just visiting, this is a quintessential experience of the city.
Obviously, the fish tacos are a must. They’re loaded with cabbage, cilantro, peppers and a secret Spencer sauce that compliment each other perfectly. We also had the jalapeño & cream cheese wontons and mixed vegetable tempura appetizers, which were tasty. And a pint of 805 was icing on the cake.
I’ve lived in Ventura now for over a year, and this is just the second time I’ve been to Spencer Makenzie’s. Our last visit was many months ago, and I left Friday night thinking I need to make this restaurant part of my normal routine, as it so perfectly represents why I love my new town. On the menu is a grilled fish & shrimp burrito, which was recently selected by FiveThirtyEight as America’s Best Burrito. Yet to try this dish, I’ve given myself a great reason to return and I’ll certainly be back!
